TBA 2 hours | 7:00 PM-9:00 PM Online | Synchronous Certificate of Completion Description This 8-week online course is designed for English language learners at the A2 (low-beginner) to B1 (high-intermediate) level who are working or preparing to work as home healthcare aides. The course focuses on the language skills needed to assist clients with basic tasks such as grooming, cleaning, and providing companionship. Students will build the communication skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, family members, and supervisors. Special emphasis will be placed on the use of the past tense to help aides accurately report daily activities. The course covers practical vocabulary, professional communication, and cultural sensitivity in home healthcare settings. Please note: The curriculum excludes all medical and clinical subject matters. This class is intended for students at the A2 (high-beginner) to B1 (low-intermediate) level. It is not recommended for true beginners or low beginners. To ensure appropriate placement, a brief five-minute Zoom or in-person interview will be conducted to assess whether the student meets the minimum English proficiency required to succeed in this course. Frequently Asked Questions for HHA CourseAre the workshops approved to satisfy the educational component of a J-1 Visitor Exchange Visa? No. These workshops do not satisfy the educational requirement of a J-1 Visitor Exchange Visa. However, they are an excellent option for improving spoken English—especially given their short length and affordable price. Interested in earning credits? Our Intensive English Program offers in-person classes. A 12-week summer course counts as 12 continuing education credits.

Do the workshops count toward a university degree? No. These workshops are non-credit and do not count toward any university degree. Where will the workshops be held? All workshops are conducted online. Please join from a quiet, stationary location and keep your camera on for the full duration of each session. When do I need to pay for a workshop? Payment must be completed online at the time of registration. How will I know I'm registered? After completing registration and payment, you will receive a confirmation email that serves as your official registration record. How long will it take to receive my completion certificate? Certificates are emailed upon request to bkln-esl@liu.edu. A physical copy can also be arranged. Please allow up to one week after the final class. Certificates are awarded only to students who attend all six classes, keep their cameras on for the full duration, and actively participate in each session.
